Sherston’s Speed Watch project
Following several approaches from residents to the Parish Council about traffic speeding in and around the village over the last two years the Parish Council asked Wiltshire County Council Traffic Department to undertake a speeding survey.
The results concluded that there was an issue with the B4040 from Pinkney and on Tetbury Road. A community speed watch team has been formed to monitor the speeds on Tetbury Road. The volunteers had to undergo online training and the site for the radar gun has to be approved by the police.
The radar gun is shared with the village of Burton with the results being fed back to Wiltshire police, who issue letters to those who have been speeding. With this evidence the police radar detective van has visited for further monitoring of motorists.
Further action to control speeding has been the installation of a speed indicator device in Easton Town and Tetbury Road, along with 20 mile an hour limits around the centre of the village.
